Say NO to the New Housing Scheme at Kippielaw.

Midlothian Council are considering a proposal to allow a developer to build a huge new private housing development of between 300 to 500 houses in all the remaining green fields between the communities of Dalkeith and Easthouses creating a continuous housing scheme which will join up the communities of Dalkeith and Kippielaw and Easthouses and Mayfield.

OCTOBER 2025 UPDATE

Over 1500 Objection Letters received in the first four weeks of the campaign. Please check out the News & Letters section of the Website for the latest campaign news.

SEPTEMBER 2025 UPDATE

The Save Kippielaw 2025 Campaign was launched at the Mayfield & Easthouses Community Council meeting held on 3rd September. The campaign is hoping to persuade Midlothian Council not to select the site for allocation in the forthcoming Local Development Plan.

This development would result in approx. 1250 additional new residents who would want to use our GP practice including 300 school children who would need to be educated at Newbattle High School and Easthouses Primary School.

The majority of our community do not support sacrificing Kippielaw Farm for a private housing development. Watch the video to find out why.

In the first few week of the campaign we have received over 500 objection letters from local residents opposing the development. We need your support to demonstrate to Midlothian Council that our communities have had enough of these large private housing schemes and we say no to coalescence.

Please click on the “Submit Objection” button to record your objection.

JULY 2025 UPDATE

Despite an overwhelming 1300 objection letters being sent to Midlothian Council last time round, at a meeting of the Planning Committee on 26th June 2025 Councillors agreed to add the Kippielaw Site to the Shortlist of Sites being considered for development in the next Midlothian Local Plan.

The site includes the Triangle Field which separates the Kippielaw Housing Estate from Easthouses. It also includes all the fields behind Kippielaw Steading from Easthouses Way to the Lauder Road.

The Council only needs to find sites for 1660 new houses across Midlothian to meet the Scottish Government target.

It has already identified preferred sites for over 2,000 houses without using any new greenfield land.

Therefore, the Kippielaw Site is simply not required. Mayfield & Easthouses have already agreed to accept 6 sites totalling 206 houses as their share of the 1660. Adding Kippielaw would take the total to 706 new houses for Mayfield & Easthouses.
